Question 1

What is Attenuate AI?

Accepted Answer

Attenuate AI is a fusion neutronics optimizer for tokamak shield design. Set shield thickness, absorber fraction and material, and it predicts magnet heating, radiation damage (DPA) and fast-neutron flux in milliseconds.

Question 2

How does it relate to OpenMC?

Accepted Answer

Attenuate AI is an OpenMC surrogate. It gives instant estimates so you can sweep the whole design space, then export OpenMC .py and .XML inputs to verify your best candidates with a full transport run instead of running every design for hours.

Question 3

How does it help with HTS magnet protection?

Accepted Answer

Every design is checked against a 5.0 W/cm³ quench threshold and a Machine Protection Layer (plasma β ≤ 1.2, coil ≤ 68 kA, thermal ≤ 5). Designs that would put high-temperature superconducting magnets at risk are flagged QUENCH before they reach review.

Question 4

Which fusion neutron shielding materials are supported?

Accepted Answer

Four material systems: Tungsten + Borated Water, Boron Carbide (B4C) + Eurofer97, Lead + Titanium Hydride, and Lithium Orthosilicate + Beryllium, for 10–50 cm shields and absorber fractions of 0.10–0.90 against a 14.1 MeV D-T source.

Question 5

Are the results certified for engineering use?

Accepted Answer

No. All numbers are surrogate estimates with a ±σ uncertainty band for design exploration. Always verify final designs with OpenMC or your qualified neutronics workflow.

Question 6

Is there free access for universities and labs?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Academic Free gives 1,000 inferences a month to anyone signing in with a .edu or .gov email. Research Pro, Lab Team and commercial plans add more capacity, exports and the assistant.
